The Amigos 24 hours of Spa was a thrilling race that saw some of the best GT3 drivers and cars battle it out on the legendary Belgian circuit. The race was part of the Amigos Racing League series, which is the world’s biggest GT3 race . Here are some of the highlights and stories from the race.
The winner of the race was T Knopek, driving a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo 2. He crossed the finish line with a comfortable margin of over a minute, after a flawless performance throughout the night and day. He also set the fastest lap of the race, and was comfortably in the 2.18’s for most of the race . This was another victory to add to the rest in the Amigos series. It is looking like he will be hard to beat for the rest of the season.
The second place went to R Radix, driving a BMW M4 GT3. He had a close fight on time with R Christie and Gary Smith, both driving a McLaren 720s GT3 Evo 2, for most of the race.
The third place was claimed by R Christie. This was his first podium in the Amigos Racing League, long overdue and much deserved.
Other drivers who had notable performances were G Smith, D Hill and C Tedder. Smith finished fifth, after recovering from a crash at Radillon that damaged his front splitter and and gaining over 20 seconds of damage. He showed great determination and skill to keep his car on track and make up for lost time. Hill snatched fourth place after Smith’s misfortune, and managed to pull out a small gap near the end.
M White held on for 6th spot, having almost crashing into Smith on the final lap as Smith was re-entering the track from an off at Balnchimont.
Tedder finished eighth, after starting from 4th on the grid . He drove a consistent and clean race, but perhaps paid the price on a less than ideal strategy.
The Amigos 24 hours of Spa was a memorable race that showcased the best of GT3 racing. The drivers and teams displayed incredible skill, endurance and sportsmanship on one of the most challenging circuits in the world. The fans enjoyed a spectacular show of speed, sound and action, both on track and online. The next round of the Amigos series will be at Watkins Glen, where another epic battle awaits.
